Could a trade skill get you back to work?

SuperSkills is delighted to be working in partnership with JobCentre Plus and supplying training, qualifications and support that give JCP clients real prospects in securing new employment and getting off benefits.

The SuperSkills approach:

We offer practical based programmes of learning, with supporting learning materials available for distance learning in each subject area, with Health and Safety qualifications built into both practical and distance learning materials.

This is basically a workshop based programme with progress reviews built in at every stage of the training, through continuous assessment.

The Learner Journey:

Initial assessment using Construction Skills diagnostic materials.
Health and Safety (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) testing available on-site in line with the Construction Awards Alliance requirements.

Everyone is inducted into the workings of the Construction Industry, including a job search session on how the Industry recruits its work force, analysis of the various aspects of the construction sector and, in particular, market information identifying those elements that remain buoyant during the current economic climate.

Training in the craft areas specified by the learner, for example:

  • Brickwork
  • Carpentry & Joinery
  • Plastering
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Wall and Floor Tiling

You will receive unlimited post-course support which provides a telephone help line after training has been completed, offering support, advice and guidance on craft issues or employment and job search matters.

Our experience is that the provision of this practical support greatly increases the probability of a successful entry to the industry by course graduates.

You will be provided with a company start up package and practical advice on stating their own business, based on the experience of people who have successfully created their own enterprises. This practical knowledge is supplemented by materials supplied by Business Link.

Who we are:

All staff involved in the delivery of the programmes are qualified in their respective areas holding nationally recognise qualifications and current assessment status with both the Construction Awards Alliance and City &Guilds London Institute.

What happens next:

This course fits in to a progression pathway that will enable you (when employed) to return for further training funded by Train to Gain and which can lead to NVQ Level 4 in a chosen craft, or further development of a broader range of skills as required by you.

Helping all the way:

SuperSkills will work with you to enable easy access to the programme and will provide free transport from local public transport links (or home address if near to the SuperSkills Centre) this may include collection by one of our staff if a location on their normal route can be arranged.

No entry qualifications are required for most of our programmes.
