This qualification is the NOCN_CSkills Awards Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Painting via a Fast Track route and will lead to you being able to get your Blue CSCS “Skilled Worker” Card quickly, simply and conveniently.
A most important point to start with – NVQ’s (the letters stand for National Vocational Qualification) involve your work being assessed in the workplace. You cannot get your NVQ by just attending a training programme and you cannot just start getting assessed in a workplace until you have built up some experience. See why knowing that is important.
At SuperSkills, all our assessments are overseen by NOCN_CSkills Awards – the leading awarding body for construction qualifications.
SuperSkills is a Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Approved Training Organisation.
You will be able to get a Grant of £600 on achievement of the NVQ if you or your business is registered with the CITB.
SuperSkills is regularly audited by the Construction Industry Training Board and NOCN_CSkills Awards to make sure our assessments continue to meet the high standards they require.
For further information, call 01845 527 445 or fill in our contact form.
Many people who call us about getting their NVQ initially ask for the Painting NVQ Level 3 – but actually only need to get a CSCS Card to be working on site. We almost always save people money by explaining all they need to do is undertake this assessment for the Level 2. However, if the Level 3 qualification is what you really want, we offer that qualification as well – see details here.
SuperSkills REMOTE ASSESSMENT ROUTE for the NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating is the best assessment process for Painters who have considerable experience. The entire assessment process is conducted remotely – saving cost and inconvenience. We send you the details of how to get the evidence of your skills that is required and your assessor guides you through the process. You don’t lose any time off work and complete the qualification at a pace that suits you. If you’re not sure about having enough experience, we will advise you. You can see all our Painting NVQ assessments here.
Easy Payment Scheme
SuperSkills has an ‘Easy Payment Scheme’ – you pay the same but spread your payments to make your NVQ even more affordable. See here for details.

Registration For The NVQ
When you decide to go ahead, we take all the details we need to register you with the Awarding Body – NOCN_CSkills Awards. CSkills is the leading awarding body in construction. SuperSkills has been with CSkills Awards since 2007.
Once you are registered, you can get a Red ‘Experienced Worker’ CSCS Card if you want. We send you a copy of your registration report from the awarding body and you apply to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) for the card. You will need to have passed the CITB Health & Safety test for Site Operatives within the last two years. You can book a CITB Health & Safety Test here.
Online Training At Your Convenience
Four Units of the Painting qualification are delivered by an online learning package:
- Health & Safety
- Productive Working Practices
- Moving and Handling Resources
- Erecting & Dismantling Access Equipment
This training is a combination of video presentations and knowledge checks. It’s very similar to watching a YouTube video when you want to know something. After watching the video, you answer questions. We provide support at any time to help you go through the course.
We give you the details of how to access the training, you go online in your own time to complete the package and your assessor will give you feedback about it.
Getting Photos & Videos
First things first – this has to be your work as a painter. (Some years ago, a candidate tried to pass off photos that weren’t his. One of our staff recognised them from the B&Q website.) He didn’t get his Painting CSCS Card with us…..!
Most painters have videos of jobs they have done. That’s great – but we need to see you working. Your assessor will guide you as to what is needed. You can take them with a mobile phone if you want. (We don’t need you to be Stephen Spielberg.) Just as long as the picture is clear and shows what you are working on. Keep the videos short – there’s a limit on file sizes for transfer. As with every other aspect of your assessment, we can help with file transfer if needs be.
Witness Testimonies
These have to be from people who are in the trades and know your work. They do not have to be painters, but need to know what they are talking about. Site Agents, Lead Contractors, Colleagues Employers, or if you only do ‘domestic’ jobs, other trades who have worked with you. They can all be filled out by one individual. Their knowledge of your work must be recent. The last three years is a good guide. We send the documents out to you with an envelope for their return. Click Here to see an example of a Witness Testimony.
Your assessor will guide you as to who might be a good ‘witness’ in your case.
The Professional Discussion
When all the evidence has been gathered, the assessor will arrange your Professional Discussion with you. Think of it as a chat about your life as a painter. We usually do this over a video link such as Zoom or Teams and it is recorded. It’s really important you aren’t nervous about this interview. You wouldn’t be on this programme if we didn’t think it’s right for you. You will be talking about how you work and what you do. The assessor will gather evidence of your skills and knowledge from your answers.
This is the final part of the assessment. Your Painting NVQ Level 2 is complete.
What Happens Next
SuperSkills has been getting people qualified (more than 6000 so far) since 2006. We’ve been with NOCN_CSkills Awards since 2007 and have ‘Direct Claim Status’ for most of our assessments. That means when we have completed the assessment and gone through an internal quality assurance process, we can claim the qualification from the awarding body without further review.
(If you’re using our ‘Easy Payment Scheme‘ and you have an outstanding balance, we will call you to see if you want to pay it off at this stage. It’s entirely up to you. However, we won’t claim the qualification until the account is settled.)
When we claim the qualification, the awarding body will generate the certificate. They say 8 working days for this to happen. That’s two weeks in real time. Sometimes the certificate arrives within a week, sometimes three weeks. Usually it’s about two weeks. We have no control over this timescale.
The day the certificate arrives with us, we send an electronic copy to you. You can use this to apply for your Blue CSCS Card. We put the original certificate into First Class Post and it normally arrives with you the next day.
We pride ourselves on a quick, simple and convenient process that makes getting your NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating as simple as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
The basic qualification for site work is the NVQ Level 2 in painting. You will also need a Blue CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Card which you can apply for once you have the NVQ
Having the NVQ Level 2 in painting will enable you to get a Blue ‘Skilled Worker’ CSCS Card – you need to have passed the CITB Health & Safety Test for Site Operatives within the last two years as well
A couple of years ago, the majority of our experienced candidates came to SuperSkills for a practical assessment. Try as hard as we might, getting all the references to that route of assessment off the Internet seems impossible. We get calls regularly from people who have seen it. They ask us why they can’t get their painting qualification by practical assessment.
There’s a simple answer. “Covid” – which limited people’s ability to travel (and their willingness to do so). Covid also put up both the accommodation costs and price of materials. We didn’t want to pass that onto our customers.
At the same time the Awarding Bodies decided that evidence could be gathered by the candidate in their workplace. That, plus easy use of telephone and video calling, meant we could offer assessments remotely.
It also meant we could reduce the price of the assessment. That’s right – we passed our savings onto you!
Usually four to six weeks, depending on the candidate’s level of skill at the beginning and how quickly they progress through the work
The candidate take photos and videos of themselves at work. Full support and guidance is given by their assessor
The level 2 NVQ in Painting and Decorating is aimed at those who have had some (usually over a year) experience working as a painter and have skills and capabilities developed in the workplace.
The evidence of how they work is set against the National Occupational Standards for their trade and when they meet/exceed the standards, the NVQ is awarded.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) keeps a list of training companies that meet its standards for how training should be given.
Approved Training Organisations have to have the right staff for the qualifications offered and standard delivery systems that reflect good practice
Approved Training Organisations are audited annually to make sure they are keeping to the required standards.
Good question! But the difference between a qualification gained in a training school or college and the NVQ is the NVQ requires the candidate’s skills in the workplace to be assessed.
This reflects the varying conditions that can be experienced out on site and the scale of thought and planning that goes into site work.
Call us on 01845 527445 – we offer other ways to get your assessment done and your Painting NVQ Level 2 achieved.
We charge £775.00 (including VAT) for a Painting NVQ Level 2 by Fully Remote on site assessment.
If a candidate requests it, our assessor will visit them in the workplace, but the additional assessor time will be charged. You will know exactly how much your assessment will cost before you start the programme.
You can start any time – we will ask for your initial payment as a minimum and if necessary, set up your payment plan.
Short answer – ‘No’! – This is an assessment programme and there is no ‘final exam’ like in a school. We help you gather evidence of your skills. If you need support, you will get it. We maintain that support until we have all the evidence.
